Is HGH Legal?

I have heard this question raised a number of times over the course of the past few months and the answer then as is it now is YES. HGH or Human Growth Hormone is 100% legal -- legal to use, legal to purchase. Having said that, there are some sports organizations that do not allow the use of HGH and consider it "performance enhancing." They include the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, Professional Cycling and others.

It is rather odd that sports such as professional baseball would go out of their way to try to demonize such as health enhancing substance such as HGH. One could easily argue it is the ultimate in hypocritical behavior. Why? Let's take a look at some of the "acceptable" drugs commonly prescribed or used in today's game of major league baseball:

1. Cortisone injections. These anti-inflammatory injections are often prescribed to pitchers and others who regularly experience arm/joint inflammation. Here is a PARTIAL list of side effects : Unique side effects of joint injections involve injury to the joint tissues, particularly with repeated injections. These injuries include thinning of the joint cartilage, weakening of the ligaments of the joint, increased inflammation in the joint (arthritis) due to a reaction to a corticosteroid that has crystallized, and introduction of infection into the joint.

2. Pain "killers" also known as Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS).

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimates that 10,000-20,000 deaths occur each year as a result of NSAID-induced gastrointestinal disorders (usually bleeding). NSAIDs are the number one cause of drug-related hospitalizations.

Potential side effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) include:

Upset stomach or nausea

Abdominal pain

Diarrhea

Bloating

Heartburn

Unusual bleeding (e.g., nosebleeds, irregular/heavy menstruation)

Drowsiness

Dizziness

Sensitivity to sunlight

Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) or reduced hearing

Stuffy nose or runny nose

Sleeplessness

Skin rashes

Fluid retention, leading to swollen feet, ankles, legs or hands

Painful urination (dysuria)

Unusual weight gain

Signs and symptoms of a more severe reaction include:

Difficulty breathing

Shortness of breath

Wheezing

Irregular breathing

Irregular heartbeat

Tightness in the chest or throat

Choking

Hives on the face, eyelids, mouth, lips or tongue

Swelling around the eyes

Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting

Bloody stools

High blood pressure

Migraines

Stomach ulcers (with long-term use)

Kidney or liver problems

There are a multitude of other "legal" substances dispensed regularly in professional sports that NEVER get reported on. Yet, a 100% legal substance, a potential life-extending substance is falsely portrayed. This type of so-called reporting is truly inexcusable.

HGH is a 100% legal substance.

The reporting on it from ESPN has been 100% false.
