This week's topic is the second part
of the series on sleep. Last week, you took a simple

Today, we will cover the common causes and the corrections
for them.

gallons. . . This is the annual amount of coffee
and sodas consumed in the USA, and 2 of the most
common reasons for acute insomnia
- overconsumption of stimulants including sugars.
This creates two problems relating to sleep:
1. Overstimualtion of the endocrine
sytem. In other words, your systems should be
going 55 mph but is now going 70. 2. And the #1
reason for acute insomnia -- an over- production
of internal heat. Certain foods/substances expecially
sugars and caffeine, create internal heat which
irritates the heart and the liver. In natural medicine,

sleep pattern. They are also the 2 major organs
associated with dreams and dream dis- turbances.

to either correct improper patterns or assist a

a. Avoid eating at least 3 hours prior
to bedtime. In addition to a sound sleeping pattern,
this is also one of the best weight reduction methods.
b. As mentioned prior, avoid heat
producing substances from dinner time onward. In
addition to the aforementioned, spicy foods, extremely
hot substances (temperature wise) and greasy foods
produce heat in the system.
c. Make sure your bedroom is both
well ventilated and not dry. In certain areas of
the country (here in FL being at the top of the
list), we live a great deal of the time in air conditioning.
This has a tendency to dry out the air. Having a
humidifier or simply a large glass of water in the
room will be a huge help, particularly to individuals
with lung problems (Remember, the lungs hate dryness.)
In terms of nutrition, at the top
of the list is an herb called Schizandrae.
I have written about this herb before. It is an
excellet herb to calm the spirit and assist one
in sleep. Having problems with nightmares or disturbed
