Greetings and Welcome to the Optimal
Health eNewsletter!
Today's area of focus is the brain.
This highly complex 3 pound organ has over 1,000,000,000,000,000
connections, more connections than there are stars
in the universe. It consumes about 20-30% of the
body's energy. This means it uses about 20-30% of
the calories you eat. (If you want to lose weight
you have to think harder.) In natural medicine,
the brain is associated with the kidneys or kidney
energy. The kidneys contain a fluid ===========================================

called "Jing" or "essence" which is
the energy core from which our life is derived.
When the jing is ample, our life is energetic, exciting
and creative. As time goes on, we use amounts of
jing on various activities until such time as the
jing is completely exhausted. Jing is stored in
the kidneys. When the kidneys are filled, the rest
is stored in the spine. When the spine is filled,
the remainder is stored in the brain, then in the
hair. Jing is to the brain as blood is to the heart.
It is essential for all functions and memory in
particular. One type of jing we are born with and
cannot acquire, while a second type can be created
through proper nutrition, exercise and a healthy
life style.
