Q: 20g of carbohydrates
per day seem impossible. What if I go over this
limit?
A: What this person is referring to
is the carbohydrate limit of 20g per day that is
recommended during the initial phase of Atkin's
or similar diets.
I totally agree - 20g is extremely difficult. Use
this as a guideline or a benchmark to shoot for
but remember the main question should be "What types
of carbs?" If you are at 30 or 40g of carbs
per day derived from vegetable sources, you will
still achieve weight loss. TYPE is more important
than exact quantity.

answer was broccoli,
you are correct. The reason is a substance called
sulforaphane which stimulates the body's production
of Phase
II detoxification enzymes. These enzymes destroy
cancer-causing carcinogens

Q: I have tried low carb and hit a plateau. Now
what?
A: This is fairly common and here
are a number of solutions to choose from:
1. Increase the levels of physical
activity. Go back to our early newsletter to learn
the keys to exercise - time and heart
rate zone.
2. Reduce the amount of food consumed.
Remember, the bottom line is calorie
in/calorie out equation. Expend more than you
consume and all will be well.
3. Avoid the 3 "white poisons" - sugar,
flour and salt.
4. Timing. This is the most overlooked
of all of the dietary "secrets." When you eat is
almost as important as what you eat. Study after
study shows that consuming 80% of daily calories
(average amount is around 2000/day for most people)
at breakfast and lunch and only 20% at dinner will
result in tremendous fat loss.
