Insomnia is a problem that affects virtually everyone at various points in our lives. However, for some 14 million Americans, it is a chronic problem. Glycine is an amino acid known to accumulate in the pineal gland during sleep and is believed to play an important role in "disconnecting" the brain from the body during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep cycles. REM is a recurring sleep state characterized by rapid eye movements and vivid dreams. The typical dose is 3 grams and is taken within an hour of bedtime.
