Humility Meets Mastery

The 4 most dangerous words in any language are "I already know that." It is the OFF switch in the brain. Any attempts to add information, no matter how valuable, are completely wasted.

To me, humility is practiced every time I am willing to risk looking like a fool (which happens more often than I like). Even when you look like a fool, you never really fail. Instead, you simply get an opportunity to practice humility.

Somewhere along the line, it seems like the moment you become a master of an art, you also become a master of humility.

I look at some of the most skilled people I have ever personally met - from Systema Master Vladimir Vasiliev to gold medalist Paul Duchesnay to author Louise Hay - and every one without exception is extremely humble.

Coincidence? No.

Just willingness to look foolish along the road to mastery.
