Greetings,
Today, we will cover a most interesting and useful supplement
called Trimethylglycine or TMG. TMG is a potent agent that
originates from sugar beets. It is a supplement that is used to
protect the body against the damaging effects of a toxic element
called homocysteine. Homocysteine is an amino acid that has been
links to such major problems as cardiovascular disease and to
Alzheimer's. When homocysteine levels are elevated, other
complications such as lupus, diabetes and a variety of chronic
disease can occur. (Special note for cardiovascular disease --
elevated homocysteine is what elevated cholesterol is reported to
be; that is, most of the correlations commonly associated with
cholesterol are in fact, not accurate. However, the most accurate
measure of determing cardiovascular risk is the homocysteine
test.)

Quick science lession. The "tri" portion of TMG means that there
are 3 methyl groups on each glycine molecule. This is important
because it can transfer to homocysteine and into methionine (an
amino acid which assists the body in digesting proteins) and s-adenosyl-L-methionine,
commonly called SAMe (a strong, natural anti-depressant.) This
detox process of homocysteine requires the presence of folic
acid, vitamin B6 and B12, zinc and TMG. For individuals with
cardio- vascular problems, this is a solid nutritional protocol.
It should be noted that taking the aforementioned is a viable
protocol for most, the ideal place to begin is with the homo-
cysteiene blood test. Establishing a baseline, followed by
periodic testing is highly recommended.

In addition to its homocysteine lowering benefits, TMG is also
known to oxygenate the cells. Thus, it is an ideal supplement for
those suffering from respiratory ailments as well as endurance
athletes. The former group would benefit with the addition of the
herb astragalus and TMG, while the latter groups can be helped
with the addition of cordyceps.
