3 Ways to Prevent Gallstones

Gallstones are crystal-like deposits that develop in the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small, oddly shaped organ that stores bile which is used for the digestion of fats.

It is estimated that 10 percent of men and 20 percent of women have gallstones.

  1. Take 200 mg of supplemental vitamin C daily. Studies have shown that this substance is an excellent preventative against stones, especially for women.
  2. Keep your fat intake to 25% or less of overall food consumption. On the flip side, avoid low-fat diets. They can promote the formation of stones by failing to stimulate the release of bile from the gallbladder
  3. Limit your intake of sugar. This has been shown to correlate with stone formation as well
