To choose supplements correctly, certain questions need to be answered thoroughly. Quality certainly varies greatly and crafty marketing often makes it difficult to determine useful from not. Here is a checklist to assist you in making the choice:
a. Look for the expiration date. All products should have one. If not, avoid it. Many people from Asian countries take a very strong stance on this issue. If a product is less than 1 year from the expiration date, it is considered “expired.” For example, if the expiration date read 8.30.05, they would not purchase the product. I would not necessarily take this measure, but do take note of the date.
b. Check for unnecessary adders and fillers. This is especially true for homeopathic products, particularly homeopathic hGH. Ingredients such as carnuba wax, artificial flavors and dyes are not needed, may hinder the absorption of the formula and can be long term problems. Most high quality formulas will read “100% natural.”
c. Avoid formulas containing sugars, starches, yeast or gluten. Too many people are sensitive to these and they ad no nutritional values whatsoever.
d. Find out if the manufacturer is FDA approved. Those this is not a guarantee by any means, the odds are in your favor that the product is safe.
e. Compared ingredients. Not all calciums for example are created equal. Calcium citrate is excellent. Calcium carbonate is poor. For minerals, look for chelated forms. (If you are not well versed in this, join Dr. Orman’s Wellness School to learn this type of information.)
f. Look for liquids first, then capsules and powders and finally pills. This is the order of most absorbed to least.
g. Take the challenge with caps and pills. Drop one into a 1/4 cup of white vinegar. It should dissolve within 20 minutes. If it does not, it most likely will not dissolve in your stomach. If it does not dissolve in your stomach, it most likely will not absorb at all. Your health is valuable.
Take the time to purchase quality nutrition. Your health is worth it.
