It has been estimated that as many as 75% of Americans experience low back pain as adults. The causes are varied, as are the treatments. Let’s look at some of the most common reasons and what can be done to treat and/or prevent such problems.
1. Digestive problems. There are 2 values – Ileocecal value and the Valves of Houston that are involved with the digestive processes. When they do not operate as intended, referred pain to the lower back region is common. There is a simple treatment for this. Have someone hold their hands in the shape of a claw (as if they were holding a grapefruit). Place their hands approximately 2 inches to the left of the umbilicus (“belly button”) and torque in a CLOCKWISE direction. It would be as if they were turning a door knob. Repeat the procedure 2 inches to the right of the umbilicus. This simple procedure will frequently correct the problem. Note when this problem occurs and correlate it with what you are eating. Often, it is an indicator of an allergy or food intolerance that is serving as a trigger.
2. Weakness of the kidneys. Please note that “weakness” is distinctly different from “disease.” In natural medicine, the kidneys have additional functions (compared to standard medicine), one being to govern the structural system (as well as hearing and sexuality) When the kidneys are weaker than ideal, lower back and other structural problems can arise. The traditional treatment is an herbal formula called Shou Wu Chih which can be found at most health stores. It is ideal for lower back problems of this nature and is considered ideal for anyone over the age of 40.
3. Structural problems. As a child, one can remember the “knee bone’s connected to the hip bone. . .” song. The lower back is influenced so to speak by the 3 arches of the feet, ankles, knees, hip and first rib primarily. When one or a combination of the aforementioned is out of alignment, lower back problems can arise. Quality chiropractic adjustments are often recommended in these instances. In addition, consider the following: (a) for feet, look at arch support and simple exercises for the feet. Place your feet on a towel. Using your toes, “gather” the towel into a lump. You should feel a sensation in the foot which borders on a cramp. That is how you know it is being done properly. In addition, quality shoes and possibly arch supports may be helpful. (b) When the feet/arches/ankles are misaligned, the knees will bear the brunt of the pain. By addressing the above, many times the knee problem will be corrected. (c) When the hips are misaligned, one side will be higher than the other. Roll up a towel and place the towel under the hip that is LOWER than the other, while lying down. Stay there for 15 minutes. Do this for 3-5 days in a row. The body, when provided the correct environment will heal itself or put itself back into place. (d) First rib problems. When one’s neck and lower back are continually sore, it is often due to the misalignment of the first rib. There is a simple correction for this. You will need a partner. Sit in a chair while your partner stands above you. Have you partner place their elbow on the high point of the shoulder while holding your arm as high as they can. Their elbow then pushes down while pulling up on your arm. Hold for 3-5 seconds and repeat on the other side. It is an uncomfortable feeling but can be highly effective.
What can be done if there is a structural problem? (Ex/ ruptured disc). This is obviously a complicated procedure but one with hope and possibility. The place to start is injections with COLCHICINE. Colchicine is a compound derived from the herb Autumn Crocus and has the properties of healing the damaged vertebrae. It is an anti-inflammatory as well so pain relief is provided. Look for physicians who administer Chelation therapy and other IV treatments. They are the providers for Colchicine. It is an outstanding treatment!
What about Prevention?
Consider the following
– unsweetened Knox gelatin. It is an inexpensive substance that can be used as both treatment and prevention. Other substances — calcium, chelated magnesium, manganese and the most important, Essential Fatty Acids. The latter is a must as treatment and prevention, as is exercise!
