food-712665_640Salmon may be the healthiest fish around. It contains high amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids which protect against cardiovascular issues such as heart attack and stroke. It also promotes infant brain development and helps ease the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, psoriasis and postpartum depression. It also helps to clear systemic inflammation.

The big question is should your salmon be farm raised or wild caught?

A public health service group called Environmental Working Group said that farm raised salmon fillets sampled in 3 major cities contains unsafe levels of chemicals call PCBs which make their consumption dangerous, particularly for pregnant women.

The PCB levels are well above acceptable ones as stated by the EPA.

Healthy fish choices high in omega 3s include salmon, sardines, herring and mackerel are generally considered safer when they are wild caught.
