Inflammation: What it is so important and how to deal with it

About 8 years ago, I wrote an article about the effects of inflammation and the tremendous impact it was having on health. This was based upon a growing amount of evidence at the time. After the article was released, I received one of the harshest emails from a doctor in Scotland.

This week, the same individual contacted me requesting more information.

Why the change of heart? What was once a growing body of evidence is now a mountain. What does asthma, obesity, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, cancers and pain in general have in common? The answer is inflammation. Inflammation is a response of redness, swelling, pain, and a feeling of heat in certain areas that is meant to protect tissues affected by injury or disease. There may be loss of function where there is inflammation.

This is The type of inflammation most people are familiar with – blatant inflammation. While the effects of this type of inflammation are well known and painful, there is a “silent” inflammation inflreaction that is of greater concern.

When you have silent inflammation, it means inflammation is taking place in your body without any obvious pain. In other words, nothing hurts at all. Everything seems normal. This type of inflammation can go on for years or decades without notice. You have no pain and you think you’re okay.

Eventually this silent inflammation can turn into chronic disease. Since many chronic diseases including obesity, Type II diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s are known to be inflammatory diseases, why not take anti-inflammatory drugs on a long term basis?

Three reasons:

(1) they can suppress the immune system,

(2) they can cause osteoporosis and

(3) they can cause death. More people die by taking the correct amount of anti-inflammatory drugs than die from AIDS.

What is the alternative?

The answer is simple with a little caveat. Omega 3 oils, also known as Fish Oils are the solution. This is one of he substances that should be taken by everyone, indefinitely. It is that useful and powerful. With its anti-inflammatory abilities, Fish oils can decrease and/or eliminate both types of inflammation. How do you know the oil you are using is healthy, as the oceans are unfortunately, polluted to a large degree?

Take a Fish Oil capsule and place it in the refrigerator and leave it there for 4-5 hours. If it hardens, the oil contains toxins. If not, you have a quality oil.
