What does fear, poor hearing, loss of hair and sore lower back have in common?
What about low libido, bone and/or joint problems, teeth problems and poor memory?
If you said kidneys, you are 100% correct. In natural medicine, the kidneys are much more than a filtering unit. The kidneys are considered the energy source or “battery pack” of the body. Quick lesson in natural medicine theory. We are born with a specific type and certain amount of energy call Jing. We will use the analogy of Jing being pure gold.
Through proper lifestyle good eating habits, exercise, ample sleep etc.), we can maintain the gold and add a lesser quality of gold to our supply. Conversely, through poor life habit, we use our gold supply. When our gold is gone, we then visit the Great Banker in the sky so to speak. As mentioned above, if a person is experiencing any of these problems, look at the kidney energy as being weak. As with virtually everything else, given the right environment, the body will correct itself. So what is the correct environment?
Warm hearty soups, whole grains, and roasted nuts are highly recommended as are small dark beans, seaweeds and steamed winter greens. Cook foods longer, at lower temperatures and with less water. The kidneys affect the ears and hearing so the ability to listen clearly is heightened by the sounds of cooking and voices from the kitchen will stimulate the appetite. The key flavors are salty and bitter in this order. Cold water fish is the ideal food with almonds, celery and Japanese miso soup forming a great compliment. There are a number of supplements that can strengthen the kidney energy.
At the top of the list is an herbal formula called Shou Wu Chih. It is based on an herb called Polygoni Multiflori. This is known as the “honeymoon herb” in that it is a strengthener of the libido and the Jing. It is very inexpensive and can be found at any Herb Store. Shou Wu Chih (pronounced “Show – Woo – Ch-er”) is in liquid form and has a strong herbal taste which you will never confuse with ice cream. Other supplements which strengthen the kidney energy are Chlorella, Spirulina, RNA, Vitamin B12, Nettles and Royal Jelly (which I will go into detail about in a future eNewsletter). Traditionally, if you want to strengthen your kidneys, do something that you are afraid of. As mentioned prior, fear is the emotion of the kidneys.
When fear is addressed or conquered, the kidney energy is powerfully strengthened.
