Tilapia has quite low levels of the beneficial fat known as omega-3 fats. In addition, we ofen look at ratios of Omega 3 to Omega 6 and once again, tilapia fails this “test.” Omega-6’s are essential, but the American diet typically includes far too much of this kind of fat. An overabundance of dietary omega-6 is pro-inflammatory, and inflammation is a key contributor to many chronic health conditions.
While it is true that Omega-6’s are beneficial and needed by the body, most people consume far too much of this fat. The problem with this is that Omega 6 PROMOTES inflammation. In addition, when the ratio of 3 to 6 is skewed, it also promotes inflammation.
In the past 5 years or more, mounting evidence is strongly suggesting that inflammation is THE key factor in disease — virtually all disease. This ranges from cancers to Alzheimer’s to cold and allergies. Literally, it covers the whole spectrum of issues.
When you reduce the amount of inflammation in the body, not only to you have lower instances of illness and disease, you have greater mobility, energy, and improved emotional state. In other words, you feel healthy physically and emotionally. Removing inflammation-inducing substances such as tilapia, breads, and sugar and including inflammation reducing substances such as pineapple, papaya and kale will go a long way to improving health and wellness.
