Struggling with a math problem? Maybe a tax or accounting issue. Maybe it is helping with your children’s homework. They are counting on you to solve an issue at work.

And you are stuck. You struggle and struggle and the more effort you send out, the worse it seems to get.

It may not be the brain that is the problem. It may be the lack of movement.

Italian researchers have come to the rescue. In a series of studies, they noted that walking dramatically improves math skills. In addition, making sharp right turns improve addition and left turns improves subtraction skills.

Aside from the math skills, I wrote an article a few months back citing the evidence that “sitting is the new smoking;” that is, sitting or inactivity has been shown to be worse for your body than smoking.

Moral of the story. . . .get up and move!
