Yogurt, particularly Greek yogurt has received a lot of attention over the past year. It has shown to be a healthy source of protein, as well as improve digestion via increased healthy bacteria.
New research has shown that regular consumption of yogurt – any type – can lower the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
Scientists from Harvard followed nearly a quarter of a million adults for 3 decades. The subjects filled out food questionnaires on a regular basis, while the researchers analyzed them in depth.
Those that consumed 12 ounces of yogurt on a daily basis had a nearly 20% reduction in the cases of diabetes.
The reason was most likely the increased amount of protein and calcium.
